Sam Rayburn - Bryan Bass Club - January 27-28, 2018

Conditions: Cool with mild winds, rain and thick fog Saturday, improved Sunday. Water temperatures were in the mid-50's, stained water clarity, lake level normal. Twelve members fished the club tournament weighing in at altered times (sl-3) Saturday and (sl-2) Sunday at Casells Boykin west boat ramp.

Patterns: Bob said he used a StrikeKing red-eye shad in red black-stripes color fished slow. Sam said he used a Lewis Rat-l-trap in red color and a rogue jerk bair in black/silver color fished fast. Darrien said he caught his big bass during the fog using an Ish Monroe fatty frog.


Coletto Creek - Bryan Bass Club - February 10-11, 2018

Conditions: Cool with moderate south winds Saturday, colder and wet with strong north winds Sunday. Water temperatures were in the high 50's, stained water clarity, lake level one foot low. Seven members fished the club tournament weighing in using the park boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and stopping early Sunday.

Toledo Bend - Bryan Bass Club - March 24-25, 2018

Conditions: Warm with moderate south east winds Saturday and Sunday. Water temperatures were in the low 60's, stained water clarity, lake level normal. Thirteen members fished the club tournament weighing in using Fling's private boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday.

Patterns: Sam caught his limits in the back of Housen Bay using a mojo rig plastic bait off a ridge with schooling shad, where he and Mark Westhusin caught them in practice the weekend before. Clyde said he used a carolina rig in Housen in water 6-7 feet deep and right up to shore. Darrien fished Housen too using a frog in shallow areas.


Limestone - Bryan Bass Club - April 28-29, 2018

Conditions: Warm with mild south east winds Saturday and picking up a little Sunday afternoon. Water temperatures were in the low 70's, stained water clarity, lake level half foot low. Eight members fished the club tournament weighing in at County Park 5 boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday.

Lake Waco - Bryan Bass Club - May 12-13, 2018

Conditions: Warm with brisk south winds. Water temperatures were in the mid 70's, stained water clarity, lake level a foot low. Five members fished the club tournament weighing in at Twin Bridge day-use park boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday.

Conditions: Water temperatures in the high-80's, about 4' low, and stained clarity. Mild south winds. Seven members fished the club tournament weighing in 3-limit at Fling's private boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and earlier on Sunday.

Patterns: Sam fished in the back of Housen using a black color tx-rig worm and a green-pumpkin color Z-craw in the straw-like grass along creek edges. Ray flipped a watermelon-red color weightless Yamamoto Senko and a 1/16oz tx-rig watermelon-red color Zoom Baby Brushhog into an isolated reed bed hump near the back of Housen. Tim swam a frog over patches of eel grass.


Stillhouse Hollow - Bryan Bass Club - September 08-09, 2018

Conditions: Water temperature low-80's, seven feet low, clear. Mild overcast Saturday and hard rains on Sunday. Eight members fished the club tournament weighing in at Stillhouse Park boat ramp at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday.

Conditions: Warm with strong southeast winds Saturday then strong northwest winds Sunday. Water temperatures were in the mid-70's, stained water clarity, lake level two foot high. Eleven members fished the club tournament weighing in at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday at Arrowhead Point boat ramp on Saturday and the Cedar Ridge Park boat ramp on Sunday (due to strong west winds). Sam allowed trailering because of wind conditions.

Conditions: Cool mornings, warmer afternoons, calm to moderate winds. Water temperatures were in the low-60's, stained water clarity, lake level 1 foot low. Fifteen members fished the club tournament weighing in at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday at Coleto Park's boat ramp.

Patterns: Sam caught his limit using a white color Chatter-bait fished parallel to the shallow grass along the shoreline. Randy used a carolina-rig on main lake points and flipped watermelon/chartreuse or pumkin/chartreuse color Biffle Bugs around the trees along a creek in the back of a cove. Ray flipped a watermelon color 1/8oz tx-rig Zoom Big Dead Ringer around the base of trees with brush in a flat with 6'-8' water.

Conditions: Cool mornings, warmer afternoons, moderate winds from the north one day and south the next. Water temperatures were in the upper-50's, stained to muddy water clarity, lake level normal. Twelve members fished the club tournament weighing in at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday at Fling's private boat ramp.

Bill Ray caught bass Sunday using a carolina-rig watermelon-red color Zoom Fluke along the edges of submerged grass in 6-8 foot water.

Conditions: Cool mornings, warmer afternoons, mild winds from the north. Water temperatures were in the mid-60's, stained to muddy water clarity, lake level 2' high. Patterns: Clyde said he caught a limit using watermelon color wacky worms and craw worms in the back of the community spawning cove among lots of other boats and bank fishermen, just happened to be positioned to cast at the right bush and straw grass. Bob said he fished at Preacher Ray's ledges using drop shot rigs with watermelon-candy color Craw Pappy's and black/grape color Zoom Trick Worms.

Bill cranked a purple/white square-bill crankbait in 4' water also near Overlook to catch one bass Sunday morning weighing 5 pounds. There were only four bass caught over two days of fishing by the entire club. Tough bite this weekend for some reason!

Toledo Bend - Bryan Bass Club - August 23-24, 2014

Conditions: Hot afternoons, mild west winds. Water temperatures were in the high-80's, lots of submerged grass and floating pads, stained water clarity, lake level six inches low. Seven members and a guest fished the club tournament weighing in three-fish limits at three different session times (sl-11 & 3:30-7) Saturday and (sl-11) Sunday at Sam's private boat ramp. Times and limit changed to conserve the bass plus the anglers too.

Patterns: For a while, it seemed the tournament would be won by who had the biggest single bass, then Sam surprised everyone Sunday with three bass. He said he caught two early on top water off a mid-lake point and another later with a crank-bait. Bob said... Randy said... Lots of little bass caught, keepers were hard to come by this week all across the lake.

There were several kicker bass over five pounds this time, Bob (8.38), Bill Ray (7.50), Randy (6.91) and Clyde (5.64). Most members weighed limits one day and some both. The key to top-three placing was having a kicker bass in your limit.

Conditions: Mild southeast wind Saturday and Sunday. The sunny summer air temperatures were very hot again near 100, while surface water temperatures were in the upper-80's, with some areas of stained water clarity, and lake level around ten feet low. Eight members fished the club tournament weighing in a special summer heat 3-bass limit at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday at the Twin Dikes ramp.

Marvin pulled a tx-rig red-bug color worm along the edge of a submerged creek channel.

Conditions: Brisk north wind Saturday and Sunday during a damp cold font. The air temperatures were in the upper 50's. Surface water temperatures were unusually low in the mid-50's thoughout the lake because the plant had not generated for a month. There were many areas with shallow grass and some areas of stained water clarity from the wind, and the lake level was around three feet low from the summer/fall drought. Six members braved the weather for the club tournament, weighing in at normal times (sl-3) Saturday and Sunday at the Coleto Creek Park ramp.

Turned out that five foot low was not a good depth for using the new park ramp.

Patterns: Marvin said he mainly used a white color 3/8oz spinner bait with a willow/colorado blades, and also pitched a worm in the area around the Coleto bridge. Jimmy said he used several baits in the same area, like a white/yellow color spinner bait, a surface frog, and a red-ear perch color lipless crankbait. Clyde said he used several baits up the Coleto arm, like StrikeKing or H2O crankbaits, a watermelon/red color craw-worm, and a white color spinner bait. All participants reported culling and limits for a remarkable trip.

Bob Barnes couldn't remember how or what he used to catch his four bass on Saturday but concluded maybe the story this time should be that it was a 5/8oz shaky-head rigged trick worm in some color out of a creek drop-off near community hole north of Housen Bay, yep that's it and he's stickin' to it.

Patterns: Sam chunked a white-white spinner bait around lots of shallow cover in the White Rock area, culling a first place limit on Saturday. Bob used a Bandit crankbait and a tx-rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Baby Brush-hog around some deeper docks with brushpiles in the Kickapoo area, also culling to a penalty-limit on Saturday. He went home the next day but shared his pattern with Richard so he and his son could have some fun Sunday. It seemed to work, because Richard weighed in 8.58 lbs and son Brent (who was not fishing the tournament) weighed in 11.47 lbs on Sunday. Clyde slowly worked some rocks near wind-protected Bethy Creek with a shaky-head rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Trick Worm for three good keepers on Sunday during the bad weather.

Bob threw a StrikeKing #5 sexy-shad color crankbait and a tx-rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Baby Brush-hog around willows in the Canyons and Pophers Creek, also culling to a four-bass limit on Sunday. That's right, he culled one bass too many and suffered through a lot of jokes after weigh-in. Clyde slowly worked a Zoom watermelon-red color wacky-worm in areas near Monterrey Park for his two bass, including the big kicker. Clyde caught an 8.93lb big bass on Sunday, edging out Sam's 8.39lb bass from Saturday.

Patterns: Randy caught 4 bass near Kickapoo cranking a one-minus chartreuse/white crankbait shallow and flipping a blue-flake color Berkley power worm. Clyde caught 3 nice bass near Kickapoo and south using a sexy-shad color crankbait in open water and flipping a Berkley chigger-craw in shallow log-jams. Bob caught a 4 fish bob-limit around Kickapoo (his limit can count four if you know the inside joke from an earlier tournament) on separate baits, one hit pulling a spinnerbait past flooded bean bushes, one hit a Lake Fork craw near a dock, one bit using a Berkley chigger craw in hyacinth mats, and one using a Zoom Baby Brush-hog in a deep-dock brush pile.


Toledo Bend - Bryan Bass Club - September 12-13, 2009

Conditions: Breezy north front Saturday and moderate east winds Sunday. Water temperatures were in the lower-80's after a mild front, with stained water clarity in main lake and coves, and lake level 3.5 feet low. Eight members and associates/guests fished the club tournament weighing in at normal times Saturday and Sunday at Fling point.

Patterns: Larry did what Clyde did (fishing together in Clyde's boat). Sam used a red-bug color Zoom Ol' Monster worm at the community hole in Hausen for his limit. Clyde caught his 5 bass limit using a watermelon/red color drop-shot rigged Zoom Big Dead Ringer near islands in Hausen Bayou.


Stillhouse Hollow - Bryan Bass Club - October 03-04, 2009

Conditions: Moderate south wind and cloudy skies Saturday with a change to mild west wind and heavy rain Sunday morning. Water temperatures were in the upper-70's with clear water clarity in the main lake, and lake level six inches low. Nine members and associates/guests fished the club tournament weighing in at normal times Saturday and Sunday over at River's Bend park instead of Stillhouse park (for an unknown reason, the Corps changed our approved location from uncrowded Stillhouse park to very crowded conditions at River's Bend where two additional clubs had tournaments).

Patterns: Sam caught his three keepers on a silver-gold color Yo-Zuri lipless crankbait and a sexy-shad color StrikeKing Series 4 crankbait on a flat with a creek drop-off running through it. Don caught his single keeper on a sexy-shad color StrikeKing Series 3 crankbait on a half-hump. Bill used a watermelon-red color carolina-rigged Zoom Fluke near the eadge of a flat to catch his single keeper. Most members caught large numbers of baby bass with only seven keeper bass weighed in over two days.


Palestine - Bryan Bass Club - November 09-10, 2009

Conditions: Mild conditions on Saturday with a southern front bringing rain at the end of the tournament on Sunday. Water temperatures were in the low-70's with stained water clarity, and lake level at normal pool. Thirteen members and associates/guests fished the club tournament with approved trailering launches and weighing in at normal times Saturday and Sunday at Bob's cove.

Patterns: Larry used a 4-6ft diving crankbait in sexy-shad color casting between boat docks or slowly working a tx-rig red bug color Zoom lizard to catch his four bass. Bob worked a shaky-head rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Vibra Tail worm around a few boat docks near the old folks playground area, catching a limit in a small area. Richard fished a shaky-head rigged Zoom Trick Worm around boat docks in Berryville cove for his four bass.


Limestone - Bryan Bass Club - December 05-06, 2009

Conditions: Cold wind Saturday and cold drizzle Sunday made for a typical club winter weekend. Water temperatures were in the upper-60's with stained water clarity and level at normal pool. Seven members or guests fished this tournament.
