The third scheduled day of competition was called off due to unsafe wind conditions. The 2001 Honey Hole BCA Top-six Championship tournament was October 27-28, 2001 at Lake Fork. The BCA championship permits club members to fish together as three two-person teams. Club coordination and teamwork are critical to this best-of-the-best competition. This year, they tried a new photo weigh-in process for Lake Fork's slot-size bass. By state law, certain size bass can be weighed in, but those measuring within the 16" to 24" slot length can not be retained in boats for a weigh-in and must be released after they are caught. Some tournaments avoid Lake Fork for this reason.
Honey Hole decided to also allow weigh-in credit using Polaroid instant photos of up to two slot bass per day, placed on special vinyl measuring placards. Using Texas Parks & Wildlife Department data for Lake Fork, Honey Hole developed charts to convert photo lengths to weights. Teams brought 1304 pounds of bass to weigh-in and also submitted 158 photo-bass. Honey Hole tournament personnel did an outstanding job of weighing and releasing the live bass, and then processing and adding in the photo weights for a smooth tournament. Like many clubs, the Bryan Bass Club was new to the infamous Lake Fork and found the fishing a real challenge, finishing a respectable seventh place out of the 75 clubs in the remarkable 2001 championship.

The annual top-six participates in the B.A.S.S. Federation Top-six Championship in the spring of the following year. In spring 2001, the announced location is Amistad Lake on the border at Del Rio. The club finished in fifteenth place there, and the six participating members said the Amistad experience was enduring with six long days of fishing but nice with quality bass and a smoothly run three-day tournament. Jimmy didn't fish it because he was Angler of the Year for the South East Federation and guaranteed a place on the state team, which allowed first alternate Ray Rippstein to go. Todd was fishing another tournament, which made second alternate Larry Glover and third alternate Charlie Thomas eligible but they couldn't go, giving Pat Baker a berth.
