Sam Rayburn

Bryan Bass Club - January 15-16, 2005

Conditions: Cool mornings, moderate north winds. Water temperatures in the 50's, muddy to stained water clarity above the 147 bridge, lake level three foot high. Ten members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Cassells Boykin county ramp.

Results: Bob Barnes picked up 10.57 lbs on Sunday to claim first place. Ray Rippstein had 10.06 lbs on Saturday for second place. Sam Fling caught 7.56 lbs on Sunday to finish third.

Patterns: Bob flipped a Zoom black-emerald color Baby Brush-Hog around wind protected brush lines near the ramp. Ray worked a Lewis rayburn-red color 'Trap over the top of submerged grass in 4' to 6' water near the boat ramp.. Sam also used a 'Trap over near-by shallow grass to pick up three bass.

Sam Rayburn

Bryan Bass Club - February 19-20, 2005

Conditions: Cool mornings, moderate southwest winds. Water temperatures in the upper-50's, stained to muddy water clarity, lake level one foot high. Thirteen members and guests fished the club tournament launching at the pavillion along with the Southeast Region BASS Federation tournament on Saturday then at Mill Creek Park on Sunday.

Results: Don Gregg weighed in 17.04 bs on Saturday to claim first place in the club and third in the Federation. Randy Knight had 10.69 lbs on Saturday for second place. Clyde Wilkerson caught 9.95 lbs on Saturday to finish third.

Patterns: Don cast wacky worms into the buck brush along with a square-lipped crankbait. Randy fished a carolina-rigged chartruese-pepper color Lake Fork Ring Fry and a red color crankbait off of points with hydrilla. Clyde used a carolina-rigged watermelon color Zoom Lizard in 8-10 ft water.

Richland Chambers

Bryan Bass Club - March 12-13, 2005

Conditions: Cool mornings, warm days, moderate north then south winds. Water temperatures in the upper-50's, muddy to stained water clarity, lake level dropping to normal. Eight members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Midway Landing. This served as practice for the top-six fishing the Federation State Championship the next week.

Results: Bob Barnes caught three bass weighing 7.74 lbs on Saturday for first place. Clyde Wilkerson caught a 6.60 lb bass on Saturday to place second. Ray Rppstein managed to get two bass in the boat on Sunday for third. Clyde won the roll-over big bass pot this time with his 6.60 lb bass.

Patterns: Bob used a Bumper Stumper double-gold colorado blade spinner bait in chrtreuse-white color. Clyde flipped a Yamamoto twin-tail grub for his big bass. Ray used a 3/8 oz florida-rigged watermelon-red color Lake Fork crawworm flipped shallow to vegetation on the bank.

Somerville

Bryan Bass Club - April 16-17, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, moderate northeast wind. Water temperatures in the mid-60's, muddy to stained water clarity, lake level recently dropped to normal after spring high. Fifteen members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Overlook Park along with the Southeast Region BASS Federaton tournament.

Results: Randy Knight brought a 20.68 lb limit to the scales on Saturday for first place. Sam Fling turned his tournament around on Sunday with a 14.85 lb limit to claim second. Don Gregg had an 11.40 lb limit on Saturday for third place. The over-six big bass pot rolls over to next month. Randy and Don placed well in the Federation event too on Saturday.

Patterns: Randy said he harvested deeper brush piles with a carolina-rigged watermelon-red Zoom Brush Hog and pitched a craw tube near shallow cover. Sam said he flipped a black-emerald color Zoom Baby Brush Hog around shallow wood cover. Don said he used a crankbait and a wacky worm.

Amistad

Bryan Bass Club - May 21-22, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, moderate southeast wind. Water temperatures in the mid-70's, clear water clarity, lake level only four feet low, nearly full for a really big change. Nine members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Diablo East, hoping to share their results with state team member Mike James for his upcoming Federation Championship tournament next month.

Results: Bob Barnes and his non-boater Clyde Wilkerson clearly dominated both days with 13.66 lbs and 13.33 lbs on Saturday taking first and second place. Sam Fling Jr. brought his dad, Sam Fling Sr., along as a non-boater guest, and his dad claimed third with 10.64 lbs. The over-six big bass pot rolls over to next month.

Patterns: Bob and Clyde positioned their boat to drift in 17 to 30 foot water between mile marker 4 and 7, throwing a top-water Heddon Zara Spook all day long and fishing submerged trees and grass lines with watermelon color Zoom Baby Brush Hogs or Yamamoto Hula Grubs texas-rigged, plus some secret bait on a carolina-rig. Sam's dad used a carolina-rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Baby Brush Hog and a top-water Heddon Zara Spook around the north side of Castle Canyon.

Limestone

Bryan Bass Club - June 18-19, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, mild winds. Water temperatures in the upper-70's, stained water clarity, lake level about a foot low. Fourteen members and guests fished the club tournament launching at the ramp next to BRA headquarters at the dam.

Results: Don Gregg took first place on his home lake catching a 15.50 lb limit on Saturday. Sam Fling finished second with a 13.74 lb limit on Saturday. Randy Knight was third with a 13.42 lb limit on Saturday. Don claimed the over-six big bass pot with a 6.94 lb bass.

Patterns: Don mostly used a Bomber Square A crankbait in shad or firetiger colors around boat docks and eel grass. Sam skimmed a buzz bait or a Stanley Ribbit frog over eel grass early. Randy used a carolina-rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Baby Brush Hog in 7'-8' water. Don caught his big bass on a wacky worm fished in one of his favorite spots at a bend in a submerged creek.

Choke Canyon

Bryan Bass Club - July 16-17, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, variable east or south winds, and scattered thunderstorms. Water temperatures in the mid-80's, stained to clear water clarity, lake level about a foot low. Twelve members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Choke Canyon State Park Calliham Unit.

Results: Sam Fling caught a 15.09 lb limit on Sunday for first place. Bob (I can't catch no fish) Barnes finished second with four bass weighing 13.55 lb on Saturday. Ted Wyatt was third with a 13.18 lb limit on Saturday. Bob Barnes also claimed the over-six big bass pot with a 6.80 lb bass.

Patterns: Sam used texas-rigged Zoom Big Dead Ringers in watermelon/chartreuse and red bug colors pitched to the outside edge of grass. Bob used texas-rigged red bug color Zoom Big Dead Ringers also pitched to outside grass edges. Ted did not give a report at our monthly meeting.

Stillhouse Hollow

Bryan Bass Club - August 13-14, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, moderate south winds and lots of sunshine. Water temperatures in the upper-80's, clear water clarity, lake level about six feet high. Fourteen members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Rivers Bend Park.

Results: Sam Fling caught a 14.7 lb limit on Sunday for first place. Ray Rippstein finished second with five bass weighing 14.1 lbs on Sunday. Bill Rule was third with a 13.3 lb limit on Saturday. Bill Rule also claimed the over-six big bass pot with a 6.35 lb bass.

Patterns: Sam used sppinner baits, crank baits, Zoom wacky worms, Lewis rat-l-traps, and Smithwick Rogues in both inside and outside edges of flooded brush. Ray used a watermelon color Zoom trick worm rigged with a weedless Fin-ack-y wacky rig hook along brush lines. Bill used a motoroil color Power Worm in 2' to 4' water.

Limestone

Bryan Bass Club - September 10-11, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, light winds and lots of sunshine. Water temperatures in the upper-80's, stained water clarity, lake level about two feet low. Eleven members and guests fished the club tournament launching at County Park 2 southwest of the bridge.

Results: Bob Barnes dominated this tournament with a 17.27 lb first place limit caught Saturday afternoon. Ray Rippstein finished second with four bass weighing 9.23 lbs on Saturday. Bill Rule was third with wo bass weighing 3.86 lb on Saturday.

Patterns: Bob used a white/black color Berkley Frenzy crankbait in 2'-3' water near a timber point. Ray used a white/black color Strikeking crankbait bumped off trees in 6'-12' water and a watermelon color Yamamoto Senko under boat docks. Bill used a buzzbait for an early morning catch.

Coleto Creek

Bryan Bass Club - October 22-23, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, light north winds, and partly cloudy. Water temperatures in the 80's, stained water clarity, lake level about two feet low. Nine members and guests fished the club tournament launching at the GBRA local park.

Results: Ray Rippstein squeaked by with a 12.44 lb first place limit caught Sunday afternoon to win by only a lucky one-hundredth of a pound. Sam Fling finished second with five bass weighing 12.43 lbs on Sunday. Clyde Wilkerson arrived Sunday morning to weigh a 12.13 lb limit for third. Anyone could have won this tornament with one of the many big-bass-that-got-away.

Patterns: Ray cranked a white/black-back color StrikeKing crankbait early and pitched a watermelon color texas-rigged Zoom big dead ringer later. Sam changed up and cranked a white Bandit crankbait all day Sunday. Clyde also used big dead ringers and crankbaits. All three culled one or more small bass.

Coleto Creek

Bryan Bass Club - November 19-20, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, moderate north winds, and partly cloudy. Water temperatures in the 70's, stained water clarity, lake level just over two feet low. Seven members and guests fished the club tournament launching at the GBRA local park.

Results: Sam Fling had 13.66 lbs on Sunday for first place. Bob Barnes finished second with 12.09 lbs. Richard Sebesta caught 11.37 lbs for third.

Patterns: After talking with an angler from another club that weighed a big stringer using Bill Lewis Ratltraps around the main island on Saturday, Sam tried the same pattern on Sunday using a 3/4oz chrome color 'trap. Bob fished with a white color crankbait and a tx-rigged watermelon color Zoom Big Dead Ringer. Richard covered 4'-6' deep grass with an electric-red color Bill Lewis Ratltrap and flipped a tx-rigged watermelon-red color Zoom Big Dead Ringer around fallen trees.

Sam Rayburn

Bryan Bass Club - December 03-04, 2005

Conditions: Warm days, variable south winds, and partly cloudy. Water temperatures in the upper 60's, stained water clarity, lake level about four feet low. Eleven members and guests fished the club tournament launching at Cassells Boykin county park ramp.

Results: Randy Knight found a 15.18 lbs limit on Saturday to claim first place. Sam Fling caught five at 13.94 lbs on Sunday for second. Bob Barnes weighed four bass totaling 10.52 lbs for third.

Patterns: Randy cranked a 1/4oz Bell Lewis Ratltrap in a bone/brown color through shallow drains with 2' to 6' water along the west side of the lake. Sam used a "blue boy" color Bandit crankbait and a chartreuse color Bill Lewis Ratltrap in the back of a creek north of the 147 bridge. Bob used a bone/brown color Bill Lewis Ratltrap and a "baby one" crankbait south of the 147 bridge.
